Ben Affleck has finally addressed his highly publicized divorce from Jennifer Lopez, calling it “embarrassing” in a rare moment of openness.
In an interview with British GQ, the Batman star spoke about his relationship with Jennifer Lopez, shedding light on their breakup and addressing the rumors surrounding it. He also explained his decision to participate in the 2024 documentary about their marriage, The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
The 52-year-old superstar rekindled his romance with Lopez in 2021, but their marriage ended when she filed for divorce in August last year after two years together.

While Affleck has largely stayed silent about their split, he now emphasizes that “no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue” existed behind it.
Affleck explained why he prefers not to discuss the split in detail, admitting it’s not about placing blame but rather that “the reason I don’t want to share that is just sort of embarrassing. It feels vulnerable.”
He also spoke about his involvement in The Greatest Love Story Never Told, the third installment of Lopez’s $20 million documentary series dedicated to their relationship.
“Part of it was, ‘Okay, if I’m going to participate in this, I want to try to do it honestly and in an interesting way.’ Because I thought it was an interesting examination,” he said.

He also praised Lopez, 55, as someone who has “handled celebrity more adeptly and more adroitly than I have,” adding that his nature is “a little bit more reserved and private than hers.”
“As happens in relationships, you don’t always have the same attitude towards these things,” he added. “And so I thought, Oh, this is interesting because how do you reconcile that? Because … I love and support this person. I believe in them. They’re great. I want people to see that.”
While discussing the documentary, Affleck reflected on his perspective, saying, ‘”You don’t marry a ship captain and then say, “Well, I don’t like going out in the water.” ‘You’ve got to own what you knew going into any relationship.’”

The two-time Academy Award winner continued, “And I think it’s important to say that wasn’t the cause of some major fracture. It’s not like you can watch that documentary and go, ‘Oh, now I understand the issues that these two had.’”
When asked about his last conversation with his now ex-wife, Lopez, Affleck responded by emphasizing his respect for her. He explained, “Well, on the one hand, there’s the first feeling, which is like, well, I hope I was clear about when you asked me about Jen and the documentary, and I talked about that and my sort of personal life a little bit, which I don’t mind doing as long as my actual feelings and intentions and beliefs are communicated, which I hope I was clear that really this is somebody I have a lot of respect for.”
The two were engaged in the early 2000s before calling it off, then rekindled their romance nearly two decades later and tied the knot in 2022. However, their marriage ended after two years, with their divorce finalized earlier this year.
