A family outing turned into an unforgettable moment when they unexpectedly crossed paths with a former world leader.
Businesswoman Portia Moore and her husband, Damien, were out enjoying Washington DC’s famous cherry blossoms with their two children.
As they snapped photos to capture the beautiful spring scene, their pictures ended up featuring someone they never expected – one of the most well-known figures in the world.
The cherry blossom trees surrounding the Tidal Basin were a gift from Tokyo’s Mayor Yukio Ozaki in 1912. Every spring, they create a breathtaking sight that draws thousands of visitors to admire their beauty.
During their early morning photoshoot with photographer Briana Inell, the couple wanted a special shot of their children, Belle, four, and Preston, one, standing hand in hand beneath the cherry blossoms.
But as the siblings posed, a very familiar figure strolled past in the morning light, leaving both Portia and Damien completely stunned.
“Story time! It’s the kid’s turn to take a photo together and Damien is saying something to me,” Portia wrote on her Instagram account.
“I’m just focused on Preston not running towards the water (peak mom moment). After that shoot was done I pick Preston up and asked Damien ‘What were you saying’?”
Portia’s husband tried to get her attention as he noticed a former U.S. President walking right behind their kids.
“He goes ‘That was President Obama who just walked by’ and looks his direction. I was like, what?! I ran to the photographer and asked her if she got the picture. She scrolls through, and BOOM, there is it! The perfect shot!”
And to their surprise, Barack Obama was actually in the picture, dressed in a cap, sunglasses, black pants, and a white shirt. He later responded to the viral post, playfully apologizing for the unexpected photobomb.
“Preston and Belle, I hope you enjoyed peak bloom! My bad for stepping into the shot,” he wrote on his Instagram story while tagging Portia.
Photographer Briana Inell also shared her experience, saying she’s no stranger to photobombers in her pictures.
“I just tell my clients not to worry about them because I can always just photoshop them out! I wasn’t paying attention since we all know how hard it is to photograph little ones sometimes!” she said.
“But when my clients’ grandparents first saw all the secret service police walking behind him, and then we asked them, ‘Um…was that Obama who walked by???’”
“And they said yeah, it was! So then I went through the photos on my camera card to see if I caught them, and to my surprise, I DID! And then me and my clients’ were like, ‘How do we even continue our shoot now?!??”
