Many people all over the world know Pierce Brosnan as the James Bond of the 90s. With his dashing good lucks and uncontainable charisma, Brosnan helmed the iconic role for a run of films that shout the actor to superstardom. The Irish actor embodies the superagent so well that one would think that he is one and the same with 007 himself.
However, Brosnan is far from being the womanizing playboy that his fictional counterpart is. In fact, Brosnan has been happily married to a woman he has been in a relationship with for over 20 years. And even though the couple tends to shy away from the public eye these days, Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye are relationship goals and couples should look to idolize these two individuals.
Fateful Beginnings
The duo first met one fateful night in Cabo San Lucas at a party that Brosnan was attending back in 1994. Shaye had been working as a TV correspondent at that time, and she had been assigned by her agency to cover the event. She was assigned to interview Ted Danson, but a few mixups at the party had her interviewing Brosnan instead. In an interview with People magazine in 2001, Shaye recounted how smitten she was by the James Bond actor. “He was captivating. Tall, dark, and handsome, everything that everybody would immediately be attracted to,” she recounted. “He had this mischievous sparkle in his eyes. I thought, ‘Wow! Wow!'”
Little did she know at the time, Brosnan was also taken aback by Shaye as well. It didn’t take long before he decided to ask her out and the couple went on their first date just a few days after that event. In the interview, Shaye shared more about her memories of that first date. “There were fireworks going off over our heads, and Kenny Loggins was singing. We talked until three in the morning,” she narrated.
Early Challenges
Due to the nature of his job, Brosnan had to fly around the world and be away from Shaye during the early months of their relationship. But the actor always stayed loyal to his then-girlfriend and was fully committed to making things work with her. In fact, Brosnan was so in love with Shaye that she would send her flight tickets to wherever he would be just so the two of them would still be together. Fast forward to just three years later and the couple welcomed their first son Dylan. Pierce had already had a son named Sean from a previous marriage. In 2001, Brosnan and Shaye welcomed another boy into the world. That very same year, the couple decided to say their “I do’s” in an intimate ceremony that was held in Brosnan’s home nation of Ireland.
Lasting Love
Fast forward 20 years later, the James Bond actor posted a very endearing picture of the couple together celebrating the 20th anniversary of their wedding. They have visibly aged since they had first gotten together, but they look as happy and as vibrant as ever. When asked about the secret to their lasting marriage, Brosnan talked about the importance of always listening to your partner and working things out together.
With 20 years of love and romance under their belt, the couple is still going strong despite living relatively public lives under watchful eyes. This has done nothing to sour their romance and they have the entire world rooting for them.
