You won’t believe how a pair of Crocs ended up saving this mom from something far worse.
Marissa Jones, a 26-year-old nurse from San Antonio, Texas, was just trying to keep her daughter safe when a moment of chaos turned into a painful accident.
While visiting a friend’s house last March, she noticed a gun carelessly left near a bedroom doorway.
Worried her one-year-old daughter Ava might get too close, Marissa tried to push the firearm under the bed with her foot to keep it out of sight. But as she did, the gun bumped against the bed frame, went off, and the bullet struck her foot.

Oddly enough, it was her casual footwear – YES, a pair of crocs that prevented the injury from turning into something much worse.
“I was at a friend’s house, and they had a gun out by their bedroom door. Texans do that in case someone breaks in. I had my little daughter with me and didn’t want her to grab it or anything bad to happen. I told [my friends] I was going to put the gun away,” she shared.
“I put it under the bed and shoved it under with my foot. I just knew my daughter wouldn’t look there or go under the bed,” Marissa continued. “Under the bed, there’s a pole to stand the bed” up, and I guess the back of the gun hit that, and it just went off. It happened so fast.”
According to Marissa, the bullet struck her right foot, causing her to jump onto the bed in agony. She was hit with around 40 pellets and believes her Crocs played a big role in preventing her from losing the foot entirely.

“I was wearing my Crocs, and the pellets actually went through my Crocs – my Croc saved my foot,” she added. “If I’d been barefoot everything would’ve been shattered. I would’ve lost my foot, it was a complete freak accident.”
Marissa was taken to University Hospital, where she stayed for 10 days. Doctors managed to remove 20 out of the 40 pellets from her foot, and she’s now preparing for a skin graft to help with recovery.
Although she still uses crutches and a wheelchair, she says she’s just thankful things didn’t turn out as badly as they could have – something she still replays in her mind.
Even with the bad injury, Marissa says she’s incredibly thankful she still has her foot intact and gives all the credit to her Crocs.
“For a while after it happened, I was having flashbacks going through every worst-case scenario in my head. I’m praying I can eventually walk on it. I feel so lucky I was wearing my Crocs, I thank the brand so much. I feel so grateful I was wearing them that day.”

She concluded, “My friends felt really bad about what happened. It’s made me think a lot about gun safety. I didn’t know anything about them before this.”
“I feel lucky it wasn’t my hand or face or even my daughter.”
