Sadly, not all relationships are made to last. Even with the best of intentions, some couples just aren’t able to sustain their love and will eventually have to go on their separate ways. For some luckier couples, it can be a swift break with no hard feelings.

However, a lot of the time, breakups can get really messy, especially when there’s a higher level of emotional attachment. But for married couples who decide to part ways, divorce can get really expensive as well. And whenever there’s money involved, the drama just amplifies itself even more.

A Rough Divorce

That’s exactly what happened between Kelly Clarkson and her now-ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. The two had originally been married for seven years and have borne two children together. However, as it is with many celebrity couples, the pressures of staying together got the best of them and their love affair didn’t have a very happy marriage. In fact, it’s been publicly documented that the two have had a rough marriage for quite a while before finally deciding to call it quits in 2020.

Ups and Downs

The couple originally got married in 2013 and proceeded to have two beautiful kids together, River Rose and Remington Alexandar Blackstock. While things started out fairly well for the couple, the problems between the two of them were far too much for the relationship to bear. That’s why Clarkson decided to file for a divorce in June 2020. Given that Clarkson is very successful in her career, the couple has amassed a substantial amount of assets together in their marriage. Most notably, they own a massive ranch in Montana that’s worth more than $17 million.

The Hotly Contested Ranch

Blackstock agreed to the divorce, but he wasn’t willing to give up his share of the ranch without a fight. Through his lawyers, Blackstock argued to the courts that he is entitled to 50% of the ranch. Naturally, he had much incentive to do so considering that a 50-50 split of the ranch would net him a value of $8.5 million. However, Clarkson didn’t agree to such a split.

After numerous back-and-forths, the courts finally released a verdict that agreed with Clarkson’s sentiment. The courts decided to settle the matter by giving Clarkson’s ex-husband a 5.12% ownership stake over the Montana Ranch which was worth $908,800.

Moving On

Since then, Clarkson has been keeping busy with a talk show and spot on the hit reality TV show The Voice as a judge. A source close to Clarkson opened up to People magazine about how the singer is doing fine and that she’s taking everything in stride. While divorces can be tough, it seems like Clarkson is handling things well and is keeping herself busy with various projects.
