Most conspiracy theories are usually wild. However, the idea that Katy Perry is actually JonBenét Ramsey might be one of the strangest.
JonBenét was a six-year-old girl whose tragic death in December 1996 shocked the world. She was found in the basement of her family’s home in Boulder, Colorado, and an autopsy confirmed she died from strangulation.
Nearly 30 years later, her case remains unsolved. However, some internet users believe she never actually died; instead, she grew up to become pop star Katy Perry.
A social media user, Peter Shields, recently shared an AI-edited video on Instagram that transforms an image of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey into Katy Perry at 40.
Along with the clip, he added a message in bold letters saying, “Wake up ppl,” along with siren emojis, pushing the strange theory further.
The video played Katy Perry’s 2012 song Wide Awake in the background, with the caption simply stating, “iykyk” (if you know, you know).
Katy herself joined in on the joke, commenting, “Wait, am I?”—a playful response that quickly gathered over 5,000 likes.
Fans had mixed reactions, with some finding the bizarre theory entertaining.
“I’ve always thought this,’ while someone else said it was his ‘favorite conspiracy theory EVER,” someone commented.
Some people criticized the theory and video, saying it was disrespectful to JonBenét Ramsey, who was murdered in 1996 and whose case is still unsolved.
“Please stop. Don’t disrespect that little girl like this,” one person wrote,
While another commented that the whole thing was “in very poor taste.”
“Not real. Different bdays. Sick sh*t,” said another.
“The fact that Katy Perry actually commented makes this even better,” said someone else.
According to Daily Mail, JonBenét Ramsey’s father recently urged the police to retest all evidence from his daughter’s murder case for DNA. His demand came after a shocking interview with a woman who claimed her ex was the killer.
John Ramsey, 81, told the outlet this week that genetic genealogy could be the key to solving the case, as it has helped uncover the truth in other cold cases.
John Ramsey met with Boulder police in January, asking them to reexamine key evidence from his daughter’s case. He wants them to analyze the garrotte found on JonBenét’s neck and the unknown male DNA from her clothing and fingernails.
He believes new testing could lead to an arrest within months and even offered to pay for it himself. However, the police told him that wouldn’t be necessary.
“DNA technology has advanced dramatically since the last round of testing was done in the mid-2000s. If it doesn’t work then I’ll praise the police for trying everything they could […] but, to me, it’s just so obvious where the police’s time needs to be spent,” said John.
The video has since been deleted, but it suggested that Katy Perry’s real parents were John and Patsy Ramsey and that JonBenét’s death was staged to help her rise to fame.
Another edited video compared their looks by slowly changing JonBenét’s face into the Firework singer.
Supporters of the theory claim that Perry and JonBenét have similar facial features, especially their eyebrows, jawlines, and noses.
They also point to a 2011 Vanity Fair interview where Perry allegedly mentioned JonBenét, seeing it as further proof of the connection.
Perry once said in a 2011 interview, “Not that I was one of those stage kids. There was no JonBenét Ramsey inside of me waiting to burst out.”
Despite the clear meaning of her words, some conspiracy theorists believe this was actually a hidden clue about her true identity.
