She has been eating entire blocks of butter for five years.
YouTube Star Bella, who once followed a vegan diet, has now switched to eating only meat. She often enjoys butter and steak as her go-to snacks.
Bella, known as SteakandButtergal on YouTube and social media, says she switched from a vegan diet to an all-meat carnivore lifestyle to help with her autoimmune issues, including eczema, psoriasis, acne, and mental health.
The carnivore diet consists entirely of animal-based foods, such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and some dairy products.
However, Bella has taken it a step further and often shares videos on YouTube where she eats entire sticks of butter. She claims to have been doing this every single day for the past five years.
Responding to critics who have questioned her health, the influencer addressed common concerns, including why her heart is still functioning and why she hasn’t developed diabetes.
“Not only has my heart not stopped, but I now have more energy to work out, play with my dog, and be the most amazing partner to my fiance,” she said. “A high-fat carnivore diet contributes to higher HDL (High-density lipoprotein) levels, which is good cholesterol, and my HDL shot up from 73 to 98.”
She continued, “Lowering your triglycerides is also associated with a lowered heart disease risk and my triglycerides went down from 97 to 15.”
She also stated in a follow-up video that consuming butter regularly has actually led to better blood test results.
“I’ve been eating butter daily for the past five years and here’s a look at my bloodwork.”
She shared that her HDL level is 98 and her triglycerides are 15, adding that she has no worries about her LDL. Quoting board-certified heart surgeon Dr. Philip Ovadia, she stated, “It’s not about the LDL, it is all about the ratio.”
Bella explained that when triglycerides are divided by HDL, a result under two is considered ideal. She then gave a thumbs up, stating that her ratio is 0.15 – all while enjoying a block of butter.
“When you divide triglycerides by your HDL, anything that is under two is ideal and mine is 0.15,” she said.
Bella follows a carnivore diet, which is somewhat like Keto and Atkins because it focuses on eating more fat and fewer carbs. When the body gets fewer carbs, it starts burning fat for energy instead of sugar.
While Keto and Atkins still allow some vegetables like spinach and broccoli, Bella has chosen to cut them out completely.
While Bella stands by her diet, health experts and doctors have raised concerns about the carnivore lifestyle, which eliminates fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts, and seeds. Some medical professionals, including doctors from the Indiana University School of Medicine, have warned that following this diet could increase the risk of kidney stones.
According to Harvard Health’s Chief Medical Editor, Howard E. Lewine, this form of the keto diet could pose serious health risks.
In a Harvard article, Lewine explained that while some keto diets focus on healthier fats like monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, the carnivore diet relies mostly on saturated fats.
“Animal fat is mostly saturated fat, which is the unhealthiest type of fat because it raises levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol,” he said. “The disadvantage of all keto diets is they tend to raise LDL cholesterol levels in both the short and long term.”
“Other longer-term concerns about keto diets, especially the carnivore diet, include the increased risk of kidney stones, gout, and osteoporosis.”
