Not everyone who loves tattoos takes it as far as Maria José Cristerna Méndez, but she sure has a story to tell.

Known as the ‘Vampire Woman,’ Maria has spent years transforming her appearance with tattoos and extreme body modifications. She got her first tattoo at 14 and now has 50 modifications, including implants and fanged teeth.

Her dedication even landed her a Guinness World Record in 2012 as the most modified woman. But despite embracing the look, she’s now urging others to think twice before making permanent changes.

Maria’s body modifications aren’t limited to just one area – they’re everywhere.

From head to toe, her tattoos and alterations have made her one of the most uniquely modified individuals in the world.

Maria’s body is covered in tattoos and implants, with modifications on her arms and forearms. She’s got ink in places most wouldn’t even think of.

One of her most extreme choices? Tattooing her eyeballs. She also has piercings all over – eyebrows, lips, tongue, and more. She even has dental implants to complete her transformation.

In a 2022 interview with Guinness World Records, Maria shared that her father wasn’t initially on board with her love for tattoos. However, he eventually came around and even took her to get her very first one.

“In the beginning, my dad didn’t agree with the idea. But after that, he took me to the tattoo studio to get my very first tattoo,” she said. “Art runs through my veins. Since I was a little kid I loved art and now I can express it through my body.”

Maria expressed her goal of covering her entire body in tattoos, saying she doesn’t care what others think of her choices.

However, she did share a word of caution for those considering a similar path.

“The advice I would give is that you have to think about it a lot as it is irreversible. I love the way I look, but you have to understand that there are young people who are very open to tattoos and piercings and everything.”

She continued, “It’s become fashionable, so we might get to a point where it’s not what we want anymore, and we might not like it anymore.
“So you have to think about it very hard in order to love it and be able to defend it your whole life.”

Maria explained that she became passionate about body modifications after a difficult period in her marriage, where she felt unable to be her true self.

“The only way to escape from violence and abuse is by loving yourself. We came to this world to be happy,” she said.

Maria sees her body modifications as symbols of strength, resilience, and breaking free from her past. Among all the changes she has made, she found the eye pigmentation and arm implants to be the most painful.

“You always can reach your goals. There are no limits. Nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it,” she said.
